The William McShane Fund Story

Once upon a time, William McShane gave Buckyballs its start. He’s the guy who, with one click of the mouse, bought the very first set of Buckyballs and changed the course of our history. We like to think of Will as a pioneer of sorts, but he stands for more than that. He’s a supporter of innovation and ideas; the one who believed in something new before anyone else did. He’s the proverbial dollar bill hanging on a business wall.

THE WILLIAM MCSHANE FUND was created by Buckyballs and Brookstone to help other product start-ups get that coveted shot at success. We know long hours and dedication go into starting a business, but sometimes you just need someone to believe in you first.

The William McShane Fund is here to help.

Through the fund, Buckyballs and Brookstone will give one Kickstarter project the opportunity to launch its product nationwide and receive $25,000 in startup cash.

Bucky, we’ve found you a beat..

This week, we promised you a set for a song. We asked you to give Bucky a balls-to-the-wall beat. A theme song. An intro of awesomeness!

We wanted an exisiting song, but it had to be bucked-up a bit: take the lyrics, the song title, or the artist, and Bucky-fy them. And guess what? We ended up humming some of these around Bucky HQ. Sure, they’re catchy on their own, but when you Buck up an already good song, it becomes a GREAT song instead!

Throughout history, greatness has been heralded by an official announcement. An intro of awesomeness (of sorts).

Which got us to thinking: every great character needs a theme song. Where would Flash Gordon be without Freddy Mercury? What if Homer Simpson never wrote ‘Spider-Pig’?

Bucky is great. Ergo, Bucky needs a theme song. (See where we’re going with this?)

We’re enlisting the help of our insanely creative Facebook fans to give Bucky the credit he deserves. We want you to come up with a theme song for Bucky.

The intro to Bucky’s greatness is in your hands, and we want that tune to be stuck in our heads.

(Need a little help finding your groove? Check out the image above for some buckin’ great inspiration.)

Here’s what we’re looking for:

Give us an existing song that fits Bucky’s character, and “Buck it up” a bit: swap out a few key words with the word “Bucky” or “Buckyballs”. It can be a mainstream hit, or something more obscure…but we need the Bucky-fied title of the song, and who sings it. Even better? Post a few lines of Bucked-up lyrics. (Bonus points if we end up humming it at Bucky HQ!)

We were saddened to learn that a 3-year old girl in Oregon had swallowed high-powered magnets but we are relieved that she is expected to make a full recovery. This unfortunate incident underscores the fact that Buckyballs and Buckycubes are for adults. They are not toys and are not intended for children.
